Successful second sampling!

Second sample season successfully completed - all 48 colonies resampled for our second reproductive season. Stay tuned for the third cruise which myself and technician Christian Clark will be participating in!

Reproduction of Alaskan Fjord Corals

This project looks at the reproductive cycle of the cold-water coral Primnoa pacifica in the Tracy Arm fjord, outside of Juneau, Alaska. This cold water species lives in abundance in Alaskan waters and forms an important habitat for commercial crustacean and fisheries species. In the Tracy Arm, unusually, they live in shallow water, so can be sampled by SCUBA rather than submarine!

This project will see SCUBA divers collecting samples five times between September 2010 - September 2011 to try and understand this corals reproductive ecology.
